Valentina Valentini, studiosa dei problemi dello spettacolo nel Novecento, insegna e Arti performative e Arti Elettroniche e digitali presso il dipartimento di Storia dell’ Arte e Spettacolo dell‘Università "La Sapienza", Roma . Le sue ricerche comprendono  il campo delle interferenze fra teatro, arte e nuovi media . Fra le sue più recenti pubblicazioni ricordiamo: Nuovo Teatro MAde in Italy 1963-2013; Drammaturgie sonore.Teatri del secondo Novecento ( 2012); Mondi, corpi,materie. Teatri del secondo Novecento, Bruno Mondadori 2007; le due antologie Le pratiche del video e Le storie del video, Bulzoni, Roma 2003. Ha curato la prima monografia su Bill Viola .Vedere con la mente e con il cuore, su Studio Azzurro: percorsi fra video, cinema e teatro e altri volumi che analizzano autori, opere di arte elettronica e multimedia (Video d’autore 1986-1995, Allo specchio, Dal Vivo, Il video a venire).
Ha diretto per Rubbettino Editore. una collana dedicata al teatro contemporaneo in cui ha pubblicato Franco Scaldati, 1997, Squat Theater,1998 Compagnia della Fortezza,1998, Peter Sellars,1999, Eimuntas Nekrosius,1999, Totò e Vicé, 2003, S.M. Ejzenštejn, Quaderni e piani di regia,2003 Teatro Valdoca,2004
 I suoi saggi sono pubblicati su varie riviste sia in ambito nazionale che internazionale, come: Biblioteca Teatrale, The Drama Review, Theaterschrift, Close-Up, Drammaturgia, Performance Research., Maska, Frackija, PAJ,  il supplemento culturale del quotidiano l’Avanguardia.( Barcellona).

Professor Valentina Valentini, is an expert on theoretical and historical issues in Performing Arts ,and is a tenured professor of performance studies and new media at the Performing Arts Department of the University “La Sapienza”, Rome.
She has published a numerous theoretical and historical studies on 20th century theatre and performance, of which most  recently, New Theater MAde in Italy 1963-2013; Drammaturgie sonore ( 2012); Worlds, Bodies, Matters; Theatres of XX century, by Performance Research Books ( 2014), a redefinition of the status of contemporary theatre; as well as Dopo il teatro moderno (1989); La teoria della performance (1985), Il dibattito sul teatro nel USA: Schechner e TDR (1974), etc.
She has also published a broad study in two volumes on the interference between theatre and video in two anthologies on video practice and theory, Le pratiche del video(2003) which is a collection of interviews of various renomated artist and Le Storie del video ( 2003), a collection of essays written by herself and by the most relevant international scholars in this field of studies. In addition she has also edited a collection of essays  on theatre and the new media titled: Teatro in immagine”(1987) Eventi performativi e nuovi media  & Audiovisivi per il teatro II.
The fruits of her lengthy study conducted through unpublished material are two volumes dedicated to the reconstruction of the first performance of the tragedies by Gabriele D‘Annunzio, Il poema visibile (1993) and on the theatrical aesthetic of D‘Annunzio, La tragedia moderna e mediterranea (1992) and Un fanciullo delicato e forte.D’Annunzio e il cinema (1995).
Professor Valentini has been an editor of a book series dedicated to contemporary performance and drama’, entitled Teatro contemporaneo d’autore (Franco Scaldati, Squat Theater, Teatro della Fortezza, Peter Sellars., Eimuntas Nekrosius..) all published by Rubbettino .
Professor Valentini has been also an artistic director of international video art festival Rassegna Internazionale del Video d‘Autore di Taormina Arte from 1986 to 1995 where she presented the most interesting and important works by most prominent international artists. In this field of intertexuality she has edited an edition of various collections of essays, videography and biblography, published : from 1987 to 1988 by publisher De Luca, Roma; from 1989 to 1992 by publisher Sellerio, Palermo; from 1993 to 1995 by publisher Gangemi, Roma.
She has also curated a number of exhibitions and screenings dedicated to video : Tempo Incerto, Avellino 2003, Zero Visibility, Genazzano, Castello Colonna 2003 a project for the European Union, Culture 2000;  Le tribù dell’arte, Galleria Comunale d’arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Roma, Dirottamenti, Milano etc.
Her essays have been published by many  scholarly journals, both national & international, like, The Drama Review (New York), Theaterschrift, Close Up ( Roma), Biblioteca Teatrale, Ariel, Drammaturgia, Performance Arts Journal (New York), Maska ( Ljubliana) Frakcija ( Zagrab), and by the literary supplement of Lavanguardia (Barcellona). She is on the  Editorial Board  of  Performance Research, journal published  by Routledge.
She has participated a number international conferences among which: - L‘impact de l‘avant-garde américaine et l‘europe et la question de la performance,.Nanterre 21, 23 gennaio 2008.
- European Dramaturgy in the 21st Century“September 26th to 30th 2007 in Frankfurt/Main .
- Symposium of this year’s edition the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre ( 1-11Sept, 2002) entitled “The phenomenon of theatre worldwide: Conflict or Contact”. “Greek theatre and its Manifestations in Different Cultures.
She has also given a series of lectures worldwide, including .Bezalel Academy of Arts, Jerusalem ( 2000) and 3rd International Summer Academy, “City Space-Net Space-Theatre Space”, Theorethical Workshop, Department for Drama, Film and Media Studies, Goethe University, Frankfurt (Germany). She also gave a master class ,"Videoart i Aplicacions a les arts de l’espectacle ", at Moca, Barcelona. Professor Valentini has been selected to partecipate international exchange project Voluntary Visitor Program introduced by the American Embassy in Rome (2006).
